A Note to Paper Manufacturers

I just finished running a sample pack through the printer, the first in a long while. It was unpleasant.

For companies putting together sample packs, here are some tips:

  1. Make the names of the papers in the sample pack match the names on your website exactly.
  2. Print the name of the paper on the back of each sheet. That way when you screw up the order of your own sample packs it doesn’t confuse the customer when they’re trying to figure out why the warm tone paper is actually linen.
  3. If you can’t do #2 above, at least make sure all the papers are printable side up and in the correct order. Don’t mix and match, thanks.
  4. Make sure your website is clear about what media type to use for each printer. Even better if the website doesn’t look like it is from the 90s.
  5. Use protective closure bags, with adhesive on the bag not the flap. That way when I’m trying to put the leftover sheets into the bag they don’t get stuck.

Thank you Smile

Oh, and one more tip (this time from a different manufacturer's sample pack): if you are serious about having people use your papers, please post profiles to your site for printers newer than the Canon iPF5000!
